A thousand new future police officers are trained with the reformed plan

Santo Domingo.- The Technical Commission for Educational Reform within the National Police has initiated the training cycle for 1,033 recruits aspiring to join the police force, covering the period from April to September 2024.

These prospective police officers represent the first cohort to undergo training under the new curriculum model at the Gaspar Hernández campus in Río San Juan. The training program is structured into two phases: the first involves six months of theoretical instruction, followed by six months of supervised field practice.

According to the Technical Commission overseeing these training initiatives, composed of esteemed educators from various fields, the instructors guiding these young recruits aim to cultivate a new generation of educated police officers through a standardized curriculum.

Mukien Sang Ben, Executive Director of the Technical Commission for the Restructuring of the National Police Educational System, emphasized, “The new curriculum is competency-based. Recruits will undergo a rigorous academic program designed in collaboration with stakeholders in the teaching-learning process. With this new generation, we aim to produce police officers who meet the expectations of society.”

In addition to core police training, educators responsible for the educational reform within the police force have implemented a supplementary academic program covering a range of thematic areas, including ethics, human rights, constitutional law, anti-corruption measures, effective leadership, peace culture, conflict resolution, and democratic coexistence.

“We have developed a new curriculum focused on competencies to cultivate a new profile of police graduates,” remarked Sang Ben.
