International Book Fair 2024 set for November

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Culture has announced the dates for the XXVI Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD 2024), scheduled to take place from November 7 to 17 this year at the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte.

According to the MINC, details regarding the writer to whom the fair will be dedicated and the guest country will be revealed in the coming weeks. The Ministry is already working to build upon the success of the 2023 edition, which saw the introduction of new organizational changes.

Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, expressed the institution’s commitment to providing an unforgettable experience for all participants, describing the fair as “a fundamental pillar in the promotion of culture and education in our nation.”

“The 2024 International Book Fair will serve as a gateway to the future of literature. With the integration of innovative technologies and the inclusion of emerging voices, this edition aims to redefine the reading experience and cultural exchange,” stated Germán. “It will undoubtedly provide a significant boost to reading and support for authors and the publishing industry.”

Germán further added, “We are thrilled to offer a dynamic platform that will facilitate connections between authors and readers worldwide, fostering dialogue and creativity within the global literary community.”

Reflecting on the success of the previous year, the organization of the 2023 fair received praise from bookstores and publishing houses, with book sales exceeding 50 million pesos, and nearly 300,000 visitors attending the Plaza de la Cultura.

Key improvements included the transition from traditional tents to modern, air-conditioned structures, ensuring enhanced comfort for both exhibitors and visitors, and providing a more enjoyable environment shielded from adverse weather conditions.

Throughout the ten-day celebration of FILSD 2023, the program featured over 350 activities, including conferences, colloquiums, talks, book presentations, workshops, exhibitions, children’s activities, and a film showcase featuring Israeli and Dominican productions.

Renowned national writers, academics, and over 50 international guests from 18 countries participated in an extensive program of conferences and talks focused on contemporary literature, reading promotion, and the impact of technology on the publishing industry.

The last fair also introduced the Imagination Pavilion for the first time, offering attendees an avant-garde space to explore technology through interactive exhibitions, providing insight into the future and the practical application of artificial intelligence.
