Rubio approves US$40.7 million in aid for Haiti security mission

Haiti, (AFP).- Secretary of State Marco Rubio has approved waivers to a U.S. foreign aid freeze, allowing US$40.7 million in funding for the Haitian National Police and the multinational security mission in Haiti, the State Department confirmed Wednesday. This announcement came as Rubio arrived in the Dominican Republic on his first Latin American tour.

Despite a broader freeze on U.S. contributions to the mission’s general fund, Washington delivered armored vehicles to the Kenyan-led force and Haitian police. The aid approval follows President Donald Trump’s January 20 order to suspend most foreign aid pending a 90-day review, with exceptions for military aid to Israel and Egypt, as well as emergency humanitarian assistance.
