Yesterday began a new period of the municipal government

Santo Domingo.- A new period in municipal governance commenced yesterday as 3,849 individuals, who were elected on February 18 across the National District, 157 municipalities and 235 municipal districts, took office.

This constitutes a comprehensive roster comprising 316 mayoral positions, each matched with a vice-mayor; 2,328 councilors, alongside their respective alternates; 470 district administrators and their deputies; and 735 committee members.

The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) emerged as the dominant force, clinching victory in 121 out of the 158 contested mayoral races, securing an impressive 76.5% of all jurisdictions.

In addition to this significant triumph, the PRM also secured key municipalities nationwide, including the National District, Santo Domingo Este, Santo Domingo Norte, Santo Domingo Oeste, Los Alcarrizos, Santiago de los Caballeros, Puerto Plata, and San Francisco de Macorís, among others.

Following closely behind in terms of mayoral victories was the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) with 16 mayoralties. Meanwhile, the PRSC claimed seven districts through alliances with the ruling PRM.

The Fuerza del Pueblo Party secured six mayoralties, while Social Justice, a recently established party that formed an alliance with the PRM, attained victory in four mayoralties.

Additional triumphs were celebrated by the Dominican Revolutionary (PRD), Cívico Renovador (PCR), Reformist Liberal (PLR), and País Posible parties, each securing a receivership. The latter three parties also garnered support from the PRM.

During the municipal elections on February 18, a total of 3.7 million voters cast their ballots from an electoral registry of 8.1 million.
