87 pregnant Haitian women detained in hospitals under new immigration checks

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announced the detention of 87 pregnant and laboring Haitian women, along with 48 minors, in Dominican public hospitals as part of a newly implemented immigration verification protocol. This initiative, launched on Monday, follows measures outlined by President Luis Abinader to curb irregular immigration from Haiti.

The detained women were transferred to the Haina Immigration Processing Center, where biometric data and fingerprints were collected to prepare for deportation. Officials confirmed that deportations proceed only after verifying that there are no health risks to the individuals involved.

Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, head of the DGM, personally supervised the operations to ensure the process respected human rights and considered each case individually. The immigration checks are part of efforts to regulate foreign patient care, uphold immigration laws, and maintain the sustainability of the Dominican hospital system.

Yes, stay firm and don’t let the whiners who don’t contribute a dime towards the Haitian crisis lecture the Dominican citizenship into financing a resolution to a crisis it did not create. It’s shameful that the issue has been left unattended for so long, and now these drastic actions are needed to establish some control over this passive invasion. We also need more prisons, biometric centers, and law changes like adding a period of inadmissibility and cancelation of any visa or citizenship process when found illegally in our country. We can’t play nice while everyone else is trying to abuse us. It can’t be tolerated anymore.

The border needs to be sealed and these pregnant haitians need to give birth in haiti. they should be charged for the services like everyone else who has to pay.

Since you want to talk about humanity and empathy, do you feel empathy that Dominican women have no beds at public hospitals due to massive imigration by hatian women that come to our country to have MULTIPLE children? those Dominican women pay taxes yet have no access to public hospitals. Dominican Republic offers Haitians FREE healthcare yet Dominican citizens have to pay. Do you think that’s fair? focus your attention to fixing haiti’s failed state instead of demanding rights in a country that does not belong to you, because if you don’t remember we gained independence in 1844 from HAITI.so yea the only ones being mistreated is the average Dominican.

Well you are wrong on almost everything you say. Most Dominicans are not of Haitian descent. Some share African origin blood but that doesn’t mean Haitian blood.

When Haitians were in Texas being chased down by officers with horses and whips where was the outrage? When they were caught in the Bahamas and put in cages nobody said anything. But once Dominican Republic started deporting them it became a problem suddenly?

when Haitians were in Texas chased down by horse and whips nobody said nothing. when they were caught in the Bahamas and put in cages nobody said nothing. once Dominican republic started deportation it was a problem. every nation has the right to defend their country period. Dominicans get deported all the time this is nothing new. everybody has an opinion but cant analyze the real problem here. who is destroying Haiti right now? who are destroying their hospitals? while the Haitian government sits there and jerks off and watch their own people suffer. and everybody focus on Dominican republic its unbelievable .D.R. is not the answer to solving Haiti crisis. they giving them medical assistant and then being deported to their country’s as it should be in a comfortable bus with ac what else do you guys wants. Let’s also remember D.R. is a poor country as well if we don’t act now we will end up like Haiti and nobody will help us. you can’t never say you went to a hospital and you was seen by a doctor because all the beds were taken by Dominicans.

You are mis-informed about Texas. NO ONE was chased with horse whips and no one was ever struck by immigration officials. This was proven and documented through federal investigation. You can’t listen to the media. They have their own agenda.

Be strong on this. Send them back to Haiti BEFORE they drop another illegal baby on Dominican soil to drain the economy.

This sounds a lot like DR is copying from Donald Trump. What will authorities do next, send the Haitians to El Salvador? How many Americans and Canadians who overstayed their visas were deported?

I have invested over $500k in DR, building a home, creating work for Dominicans and Haitians. I support families here that have become my friends and help those I do not know. I have worldwide health coverage or I can pay for private health services if needed. I overstay sometimes and pay the fine at the airport on the way out of DR. Probably will apply for residency in a few months. I am not a burden on the system but a welcome addition of resources. That is the difference.
