House arrest lifted for Jean Alain Rodríguez

Santo Domingo.- The Second Collegiate Court of the National District has lifted the house arrest and removed the electronic monitoring bracelet of former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez, a key figure in the Medusa corruption case. This marks a significant development after years of legal attempts by Rodríguez to ease the restrictions placed on him.
The decision came just one day after the Constitutional Court prohibited the Public Prosecutor’s Office from using nicknames like “Medusa” to label corruption cases. Rodríguez and several others are accused of serious offenses, including bribery, embezzlement, fraud, and money laundering during his term as Attorney General from 2016 to 2020. The Public Ministry alleges the defendants misappropriated over RD$6.000 million from state funds.
In addition to Rodríguez, the case implicates over 40 individuals and 22 companies, including former officials and private associates. A trial on the merits was ordered on June 29, 2023, by Judge Amaury Martínez, following extensive investigations that detailed widespread corruption under Rodríguez’s leadership.
Think many people will be uncomfortable with him back in the streets.
